A., Volunteer

“HorseWorks has improved my life. It gets me outside, gives me the opportunity to mix with other people and spend time outdoors, while helping and being around the horses. I’ve learned new skills, and being here helps bring my stress levels down. It gives me something positive to focus on and helps prevent me from reaching a mental health crisis.”

Our Supported Volunteering sessions provide a regular opportunity for children, young people aged 8+ and adults to get involved at HorseWorks, with separate groups for young people and adults. In small groups, participants work alongside the HorseWorks team on practical jobs that make a real contribution to our charity.

Working together. Growing together

Activities include caring for the horses, gardening, and keeping our outdoor spaces looking their best. While the sessions take place around the horses, they do not involve a lot of direct horse interaction. The focus is on taking part, learning new skills, helping others and having a meaningful role within the HorseWorks community.

Having a regular routine, meaningful activities and positive social connections can help participants feel valued, connected and part of something. Supported volunteering provides routine, purpose, social connection and a sense of belonging, while allowing participants to build confidence at their own pace.

Session times

Adults: Mondays, 11:30–14:00 | Fridays, 11:30–13:30
